This year PPIG is setting up a "Learning Analytics Group" primarily for primary, secondary & tertiary teachers but anyone with an interest (e.g. workforce skills development) can also join in.
"Learning Analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimising learning and the environment in which it occurs ... It centres on the learning process, which includes analysing the relationship between learner, content, institution, and educator". George Siemens, Institute at Athabasca University 2011).
Key themes to explore will be …
This will be a peer-directed collaborative learning group that:
If you are interested in joining please send an e-mail to [email protected] and we’ll add your name to the contact list.
- How can we measure learning impact in more granular detail, including the rate/efficiency of learning for each student ?
- How could we use a variety of Learning Analytics tools to …..
- prompt further investigation so that we can gain greater insights into student needs, and
- develop tailored learning interventions/strategies for each of the unique classes that we as teachers face each day
- How do we measure and better understand a student’s progression into ever “deeper learning” skills (v’s surface learning) across a variety of subjects?
This will be a peer-directed collaborative learning group that:
- Is focussed on professional skills development in and around how to use “Learning Analytics” as a platform for providing better student outcomes;
- Leverages the inherent knowledge, experiences and wisdom of the group for mutual professional development;
- Uses our network of contacts to bring people in over time with niche expertise in ‘areas of interest’ into our gatherings as speakers or facilitators to explore that area in more detail
- Becomes a hub for active peer networks, support programs and organisations utilising data to enhance student engagement, well-being and academic outcomes.
